The
Dominican Republic.....January 2008! One of the best mission trips yet! A group of a nurses and one physician assistant pulled together to help our friend, Jessi, who lives in the Dominican. She is a nurse there and works for Kids Alive. We came to help her do assessments of the children in the schools and also to do medical mobile clinics. With this group of girls we always have a blast!
A few of us going through the village to let them know of the medical clinic....
The classrooms ...
The children were so sweet! Many of them had open wounds on their bodies, infections, no clothes, never have seen medical help or dental care.
Katie Loved the babies....
Patti here being silly!
We stayed all together in one room with one bathroom....Here is the room. It also was very hot during the day! No AC! But the nights were cool. There was not alot of water in the house, and the water we had was freezing cold. Everyday around dinner time all the electricity would go out in the town.. So we lived by candlelight! And we ttok super quick showers and bathroom time....You definately did not want to get caught in the shower with no water or in the bathroom without flushing! Haha!
This was our mode of transportation for the week!
Lots of rice and beans... This was the food the kids were served at the school. Many of them only got ONE meal a day
hanging out with the kids in the village....
We stayed about 2 weeks in the DR. The last few days of the trip we took time to travel around... here are some amazing photos of the beautiful land
We hiked through here found this waterfall and bridge!
The beaches were amazing....
